Please enjoy this piece I wrote for First We Feast on the lack of media attention to chefs of color.

Michael, the image alone is powerful! Every time I sit and watch a food show, or read another article or book about food, I ask the question: “Where are the black chefs?” As a foodie and heir to the throne of soul food divas in my family, I have a special connection to food. When I write about food, my perspective is unique because of my family history and ethnic background. Black chefs have greatly contributed to the history of American cooking, but their contribution is slowly being ignored. By ignoring Black chefs , is the culinary world conveying a subliminal message: “You can only enter by the back door!”
